Bakari Mustafa - Entrepreneur, Technologist, and Former Refugee

I am an African-born Australian entrepreneur, technologist, and former refugee. Born in Burundi, Central Africa, I grew up in Malawi, South-eastern Africa. After living in a UNHCR refugee camp in Malawi, I migrated to Australia in 2015 upon being granted asylum by the Australian government.

What I’m Working On

I serve on the leadership team at Networking African-Australians, a Melbourne-based community organization supporting African-Australian youth. Our programs include homework clubs, leadership camps, and mentorship initiatives that help students build confidence, strengthen their education, and prepare for meaningful careers.

In April 2025, we hosted a three-day leadership camp at Mount Eliza for 34 African-Australian students, focusing on confidence-building, teamwork, mental health, and cultural identity.

Past Work & Impact

I’m the founder of Mentors Outreach, a community platform connecting young professionals and students with mentors, investors, and founders. Through this work, I’ve helped build a network focused on guidance, opportunity, and practical support for the next generation.

I’ve also created community-focused initiatives including:
